I’m in no rush to get on the train. After all, I’m more concerned about when the hostel opens. No way I’m walking around with this backpack.
The airport is outside of the city. The first stretch is above ground before going under to connect with the metro. And the metro is where I find is gem…
Oh, Japan, I’ve missed you. Spoiler alert: this post is half full of random goodies.
I make it to the hostel, Tani9 Backpackers, where they are super friendly and speak English very well. the space is very narrow but after the airport, I’m thrilled to have a bed tonight. I shower and head out to the Times Square of Osaka– Dotonbori. It’s too early but I can’t wait to explore. It’s my first time in Osaka!
Coffee anyone? It’s cool enough for Tommy Lee Jones and his Japanese friend.
Anyway, the main drag runs along a canal.
Filled to the brim with shops and restaurants.
I ended up who knows where and stopped for ramen… at a chain that I didn’t try in New York.
With a full stomach, I walked toward some nerdy shops but stopped in a temple.
Nerd time! I didn’t buy anything because I’m not hip enough for all the new series.
I’m trying out Couchsurfing and hoping it will yield better results than all the strange guys messaging me in Istanbul. I heard back from a woman who lives in Osaka and likes photography. We’re meeting up tomorrow for some night photography and snacks, I hope.
And that was my first day!
